Museo de Arte de Zapopan

About MAZ

The Museo de Arte de Zapopan (MAZ), founded in 2002, enjoys a privileged location, to one side of the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, a site of great historical, cultural, and religious significance. Nearby is the seat of the municipal government and a wide variety of tourist attractions, commercial establishments, and transportation lines.

The MAZ, whose building is the work of architects María Emilia Orendain and Enrique Toussaint, is the only public institution in Jalisco devoted exclusively to contemporary art. Although it does not have a permanent collection, it has distinguished itself by presenting temporary exhibitions of significant work and of projects created especially for the museum’s spaces.

Misión

For the Museo de Arte de Zapopan it is vital to communicate and collaborate with the community, proposing socially relevant exhibition projects. Its efforts and research are aimed at holding exhibitions and organizing activities that embrace the diversity of interests of the public involved with it.

The museum’s mission is to generate experiences that encourage reflection and learning through the art of our own time, fostering a dialogue between established principles and new ideas, and making for more complex and independent ways of understanding and thinking about art.
