BMW Art Collection
From August 14 to October 17, 2009
BMW Art Cars Collection is an exhibition considered one of the most exceptional “works of art on wheels”. The exhibition is made up of four BMW cars painted by the artists Frank Stella (1976), Roy Lichtenstein (1977), Andy Warhol (1979) and Robert Rauschenberg (1986).
“For BMW Group Mexico it is an honor to bring a part of the BMW Art Cars Collection to the country, since this year we are celebrating the 15th anniversary of operations and for that reason we want to show a different way of seeing cars and appreciating them as a symbol of art with unique power. We are sure that due to the international character of this exhibition, the Zapopan Art Museum will delight the inhabitants of the entire metropolitan area of Guadalajara” comments Gerd Dressler, general manager of BMW Group Mexico.
In this second stage of the tour through Mexico, the proposal for the installation was in charge of the MAZ museography team; which gives museum visitors the opportunity to see this exhibition up close, as well as learn about the artists’ vision and creative process through the projection of videos.
“It is extremely gratifying to welcome the BMW Art Cars collection into our home, since the main thematic axes that make up our programming are Contemporary Art, Architecture and Design,” says Ricardo Duarte, Director of the Zapopan Art Museum. Likewise, the museum director adds that this is a project where the vision of Contemporary Art and the Pop Art movement are evident in its reflection on the object, the exploration and appropriation of new forms of language, as well as a new contextualization of the art world in a consumer system.
