Coalescing Towards

Performance and workshop by Michele Rizzo

November 18 — 26, 2026

As part of the Live Arts Program 2026, curated by Michelangelo Miccolis at Museo de Arte Zapopan (MAZ), Italian choreographer and artist Michele Rizzo will present his work in Mexico for the first time.

For this occasion, Michele Rizzo is looking for dancers and performers to take part in a site-specific iteration of Coalescing Towards at MAZ.

ABOUT THE WORK

Coalescing Towards (2023) by Michele Rizzo invites participants into an immersive exploration of movement, drawing from over a decade of the choreographer’s research into synchronicity and the obsessive repetition of gestures.

Through guided sessions, participants engage in collective walking scores and spatial exercises that become tools for activating new forms of community and shared presence. The work unfolds as a complex and evolving choreography, interweaving moments of contemplation, stillness, and gradual energetic build-up, fostering a sense of cohesion among the group.

Participants are invited to reflect on the ways bodies navigate and inhabit urban and social spaces—balancing solitude and encounters, individual trajectories and collective rhythms. The experience moves through a wide emotional spectrum, from introspection to euphoria.

Conceived as a dynamic and evolving format, Coalescing Towards embraces transformation with each iteration. While the core structure of the movement score remains consistent, the composition of the group, the duration of the sessions, and the surrounding sound environment are adapted to each specific context.

For its presentation at MAZ, the work will be developed specifically in relation to the museum’s spaces and the bodies participating in the process, emphasizing process, collective presence, and collaborative creation.
